The Bethesda Avenue - Elm Street Parking Garage and vicinity.

Tour in a larger map
We selected the Bethesda Avenue parking garage because it is distant from the Metro Station. We felt that chances of finding a parking space would be best some distance from the Metro Station. This garage is also fairly close to the residential area.We drove to Bethesda because travel time is about 1/3 that of using the transit option from Reston. There are over 17 parking garages and lots in Bethesda.
This is the ramp to the top level of the parking garage at 10:30 am
on a Friday in April. This is the long term parking section with meter
rates of 65 cents per hour. The meter takes coins or you can pay using
your cell phone. See www.goparknow.com
for details. Short term parking is on the lower floors and is $1.00
per hour for a maximun of 3 hours. Montgomery County is considering
raising the parking rates and eliminating free Saturday parking because
of budget deficits. The parking in Reston Town Center is privately owned
and free at the moment. |
This is the same ramp around 12:30 pm on the same day. The top floor
of the parking garage is nearly filled and there is a long line of cars
arriving. We can only guess that people are driving here from places
like the National Institute of Health where there is a Metro station.
An individual would pay $3.50 to take the Metro here versus $1.30 for
2 hours of parking. A group of people would save considerably more.
People tend to ignore the cost per mile of operating a vehicle.

This is a view to the south of our parking garage. Notice there is
considerable vehicle parking in buildings.
|
This is the Bethesda Ave. entrance to our parking garage. There was a similar entrance to this garage on Elm St. The entrance is next to the building on the right.

This is a bicycle rack at the entrance to the parking garage. This is about one half block from the Capital Crescent bicycle trail crossing. |
This bus stop for the free Bethesda Circulator Bus was near the entrance to the parking garage. Click here for a map of the bus route. |
