The preferred start of this section of the CCT is Hunter Village Drive at Old Keene Mill Road. There is some street parking on Hunter Village Drive although a number of cars use this location for carpooling on weekdays. People starting from the Byron Avenue Park end of the previous section should add 0.6 miles for each direction of travel. There is also some street parking on Hooes Road at Whitlers Creek Drive.

The first part of this trail is temporary as plans call for a better connection to the Lake Accotink South section of the trail under Old Keene Mill Road. The trail from Hunter Village Drive has a gravel surface and is narrow. Once past a water main the trail is asphalt and standard width. Upon reaching the Franconia - Springfield Parkway the CCT uses a bicycle path along that highway to reach the next section of trail along Pohick Creek. There is one steep grade that will be difficult for bicycles on this route.
