The walk starts at the steps leading to the VRE Tracks at
the Burke Centre station.
- Follow the sidewalk to the east with the tracks on your
left. On warm Saturdays there will be a farmer’s market on the right. The
sidewalk will become an asphalt trail and pass an athletic field on the right.
- The trail crosses a bridge over a creek as it curves
to the right.
- Some white rocks appear on the left. Take a sharp left
to follow an asphalt trail with the same rocks on your left.
- At the next trail junction take the asphalt trail to
the left. The other trail climbs a hill.
- An asphalt trail intersects from the right. Continue
straight on the present asphalt trail.
- A narrow gravel trail intersects on the right. Continue
straight on the present asphalt trail.
- Four trails intersect at this location. Take the asphalt
trail to the left. It will leave the woods to follow the track in a sunny
area. There are 2 gravel trails to the right. This point marks the end of
the new section of trail and the beginning of an existing trail.
- The trail reaches a fairweather crossing that was part
of the old trail construction. This crossing make prove challenging for some
walkers or bikers. Generally if you are paying into Social Security you may
have no difficulty making the crossing. If you are collecting Social Security
this may be challenging to you. In other words, older walkers may have trouble
with balance on this crossing and younger walkers may not. View a crossing

- The trail crosses a bridge over a stream. An asphalt
trail intersects from the right. Continue straight on the present asphalt
trail.
- The trail turns to the right to pass through a wooded
section. It appears that the original trail intended to go straight here.
- Turn left at the next asphalt trail intersection. This
trail will cross Pohick Creek on a new bridge.
- The trail ends at the remains of the old alignment of
Burke Road. Turn right to reach the current roadway and a shopping center.
